Traditional New England music and dancing tonight.

We plan to take our students to the Nelson Monday night contra dance tonight. There have been similar dances and music in the Nelson town halll for about 200 years. There will be at least 50 local kids there from local schools in Keene, Peterborough, Wilton, and elsewhere in the region. (Attendance increases a lot in during school vacations). It's easy and kids and adults there will be happy to teach newcomers. Lots of teen musicians, usually, too.

The above youtube video is from the winter time with many fewer people than will be there tonight. In the summer we can expect visitors from around the world and around the US. I was calling a dance there one August night a few years ago and asked where people were from. The hall was packed, and there were visitors from 18 different US states and 19 different countries there. I expect to call a dance or 2 tonight, as well.

Welcome to Amherst!

Off to a great start

The girls love the dogs, especially our little one. We had homemade pancakes with freshly picked raspberries and bacon this morning. Not sure they ate enough but hopefully they will say something if they are starving! Off to see downtown Nashua and shopping at the mall.

Anyone interested in some candlepin glow bowling later in the week? Or perhaps kayaking in a group at Baboosic lake? How about Harry Potter at the drive-in?

Next weekend we are hoping for great weather for a trip to Hampton Beach and perhaps the mountains.

Welcome to Amherst!

What a great start to our two week program. Thank you for making it such a wonderful experience for the children. We had goosebumps when the bus pulled into the station and you were all standing there holding the banner smiling and waving. Clearly the children felt welcomed to Amherst. We were so proud when we saw our current and former middle school students working hard to make the students feel comfortable and welcomed. Students went from apprehensive to relaxed and soon were playing basketball, volleyball and conversing with their new friends.

Vicky and Art Leknes were amazing hosts and we appreciated them allowing us to hold the event at their home. It was the perfect location for an event like this.

We have several hundred pictures we will share when we get an opportunity to upload them! Enjoy the rest of the weekend with your students and we will see you on Monday in room 203 at the middle school.

Very excited

We had an email from one of our students this morning. She sounded quite excited, as are we! Hoping to get to Hampton Beach, maybe the drive-in, some shopping, a contra dance and more.

Chongqing or Kunming China

The last group of students came from Chongqing China in the Sichuan province. We are told that the Stillwell foundation has not told them the exact locations of all of the students. It is safe to say that the students we are getting are from Chongqing or Kunming. Both are located in southwestern China and they are large cities.

I have included links for both cities below:
